I am a guy and wore a hairclip in school and teachers tell me to take it out. What schould I do?

I need help, at school I decided to wear a hair clip in my hair. The teachers are constantly repeating to take it out. What should I do? In the rule book there is nothing saying a guy cannot wear a hairclip. When I refused to take it out a teacher asked me into the hall. She asked why I had it in my hair. I said 'cause I want to. Later that day, a friend overheard her talking and was saying, I don't know what he is trying to prove maybe he is gay.(I'm not)

So, any suggestions on how I should protest or deal with this.

If there is no school rule there is no reason that you should not be able to wear the hair clip. If the teachers keep harrassing you about it, I would try to talk to an administrator about it. Also, the teachers should not be gossiping about your sexual orientation, especially not where students can overhear. I would mention this to an administrator as well.

Good luck.

Well here's the deal. If the school has not sent out a set code of conduct/dress (sometimes its in the agendas, so look), then you can refuse to take it out. If they have sent one out, as long as the hair clip is not in violation point that out.

Well that's not really right. That is gender discrimination and you could probally talk to a principal to get it sorted out.

Simply bring up the fact that it does not say anywhere that you are not allowed to wear hair clips. Ask why girls can wear boy clothes if they wish to.

Also...why are you wearing a hair clip...? o.o

Take it out...and talk to the principal if you want to go down that road. Invest in some hair mousse or gel.

Sue the school for discrimination. Seriously, even if you were gay it's none of their business.

Ok, suing the school was a joke. But if there's nothing in the rule books about guys wearing hair clips then they just need to deal. I hated high school.

How old are you?????

What's the big DEAL ??" Cause I want to" is no answer. Sit down and think about why? And then tell them why. Or is it just You want to get thrown out of School.

Don't protest . Just come up with an real answer.

You sound like a Teenager

You like pushing the envelope just to see how people will react! That can be fun, but it can also bring some unwanted consequences. I myself am a wave maker!

I once had an African American teacher, (she was a sweetheart)

and with all of the emphasis being placed on this definition of what should the blacks should be called... african americans, or blacks, or what.

That got me thinking... what should whites go by? ahh, Anglo Americans! So I had to make a point with this!

I made a t-shirt that said..." ANGLO AMERICAN and proud of it!"

(it was a RED t-shirt none the less!)

My teacher ignored it for the most part of the day... I would see her cut a quick look my way every now and then. I thought she was trying to figure out what was printed on it.

At the end of school, she saw me outside and called me over to her.... "what exactly do you mean by wearing that shirt?? and are you making fun of the black community??!!"

I said to her feeling a bit political..." We all came from some where, but we're all AMERICANS!"

she said to me "I'm not AFRICAN, I'm actually from the ISLANDS and I hate it when I'm referred to as African American!

I'm glad you wore that shirt because it 's given me the opportunity to address this with some one that's white!"

I smiled and realized how important this moment was.

I said to her "well, I didn't realize you were from the Islands (Jamica, ect.) so I learned something today, we really are all from somewhere else and putting us in different catagories just doesn't make sense because you could be wrong!"

I still have that shirt and the love of rocking the boat!!!

***my advice to you would be stand your ground and wear that hair clip proudly...BUT.... be prepared for the potential fallout from it!

1. others may make fun of you

2. you might be expelled for non compliance

3. you could end up on the news or in court

So, think about it and forge ahead you brave soul!! GOOD LUCK!

Just take it out - easiest way all around. Wear it elsewhere it you must. You must have known it would cause attention.
