I am mixed and right now i try to grow my hair out. I do conditioning and i cut all the damaged ends. Now i've been told that i have to wrap my hair up every night so that it grows. I tried doing it with tights, satin caps, scarfs but i just HATE the feeling of something on my head, it literally keeps me awake and everything i put on has fallen off during the night anyway. I do have pretty straight thick hair (it only curls when it's wet but when i brush it dry i brush the curls out) but it's not "white" hair. Is it really nessesary to do that??? Are there any mixed/black people out there who don't do it and your hair still grows? Before i slept with my hair in a bun and it was never badly tangled in the morning. I always took the clips out of the bangs before i went to sleep though. Is there ANY other way then wrapping it up? I know that anything else would probably not help as much but the wrapping up literally steals my sleep
Do i REALLY HAVE to wrap my hait up every night? (i'm mixed)?
no you don't, people only wrap their hair at night to keep it smooth and have a little curl at the end so they don't have to do much to style it...your hair will grow regardless

Well, you don't have to wrap your hair to have it grow. Wrapping is to keep the hair straight and smooth during the night so that it falls into a straight style in the morning when you uncomb the hair. However, the stylist might have told you to do so because wrapping at night also protects the ends of your hair while you sleep. It keeps the ends of your hair from rubbing on cotton pillowcases and getting dry and split. So, you could very well wear a bun and just slip a sleep bonnet over your head instead of wrapping the hair. Ideally, even if wrapping, you should be covering the hair with something made of satin or silk. Maybe the reason why you can't get to sleep is b/c you wrapped too tight or the scarf is on too tight? I've been wearing bonnets and scarfs for years and it's something you really just get used to.
