Border collie and the dog groomers?

Border collies are pretty easy to take care of. They would benefit from at least a weekly combing from you at home, but all the trimming they would get would be to possibly neaten up the feathers, trim the hair on the pads and tops of their feet, and maybe trim around the bum a little to keep any poop from sticking.

these are some really nice border collie pics of what they're supposed to look like.

If your mom has it in her head that these dogs are supposed to ever get shaved, let her know that that is a very bad idea. These dogs need their coat to protect their skin, from both the cold and the heat. Never shave them, unless it was absolutely medically necessary.

to my knowledge border collies are pretty much just a wash %26amp; brush out %26amp; possibly trimming the hair around the feet for sanitary purposes....in general they do not ahve a specific cut that they are groomed in they are kind of a wash n wear type of breed. You do have to keep them brushed %26amp; clean but that is with any breed

Normally, I don't think they do any shaving or anything to border collies. They just trim the ends and make sure they're free of mats, which you'll have to help with. Long haired dogs need to be brushed at least once daily.

A good groomer won't do anything you aren't comfortable with- UNLESS it's necessary for the health of the dog. For example, if your border collie managed to get full of mats, the groomer would have to shave him down to keep him from getting any kind of infections from being matted. Daily brushing should keep this from happening, though.

Border collies shed, and their hair doesn't get very long... I would just brush it daily, and things should be fine. You shouldn't even have to take it to the groomers except for trimming the nails, etc.

border collies usually dont get much more than a trim (usually on the feet, tail, hind end, and sanitary area). if you do want to trim the dog yourself talk to a groomer and see if they could teach you how to do it along with trimming the nails and cleaning the ears.

Border collies just need to be brushed. They are not "clipped" by clippers. They will shed, so, brushing is required whether it's by you or a professional groomer.

Border Collies do not need to have their hair clipped, except like others mentioned around certain areas. They need to be brushed regularly and bathed when needed, but they do not need to be trimmed all over. In fact, clipping or shaving them in the winter takes away what they need to stay warm.

The only grooming that a Border Collie requires is regular brushing and nail trims.

Unless you prefer the 'neat and tidy look 'as I call it.

Basically just trimming and neatening up and whispy hairs around the backs of the legs and under the tummy and tail, anywhere else that needs touching up.

(Done with scissors not clippers)

It really depends on the look that you prefer, but a regular haircut is certainly not a requirement for this breed.

They shed, so you really need to have your mind made up that you are going to brush her/him at least a couple times a week. Also, be sure to keep the coat tangle free, check behind yourself after youve finished brushing (with a comb) to make sure that you havent missed any knots or tangles so that you dont run into matting problems.

Border Collies do not require professional grooming. Running a slicker brush through his coat once a week at home will keep him tangle free and looking good. If you're really worried about the coat up-keep, border collies also come in a smooth coat variety, you could look into that. Most importantly, border collies are a strong working breed, be prepared to take that new pup to training classes and find a job for him to keep him happy and out of trouble! Agility is an excellent outlet- BC's tend to excell in it as well as any dogsport. Good luck!
