Airline Question?

Does anyone know if you can wear hair extentions with metal clips on an airplane? I mean could you go through security without the buzzer going off? What an embarresment that would be.

Airline Question?

Yes you can wear hair extentions with metal clips on an airplane. Its on how you take it by the embarresment part. but its not in the rules about having them. here are the banned items:

In the wake of the events of 11 September 2001, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has prohibited the following items from airplane cabins (though in some cases they can be carried as checked baggage):

Knives of any length, composition or description

Most cutting instruments, including carpet knives and box cutters (and spare blades), any device with a folding or retractable blade, ice picks, straight razors, and metal scissors with pointed tips.

Note: Small scissors with a cutting edge less than four inches (10 cm) and small tools such as pliers and screwdrivers that are less than seven inches (18 cm) in length are allowed in the cabin.

Lighters, lighter fluid, and strike-anywhere matches (up to four books of safety matches are allowed)

Baseball/softball bats

Golf clubs

Pool cues

Ski poles

Hockey sticks

There are some exceptions for medical and special needs

When in doubt, transport item in checked baggage

Airline Question?

DEPENDS UPON 2 THINGS: HOW MUCH "METAL MASS" DOES THE HAIR EXTENSION CONTAINS( USUALLY A MINIMUM AMOUNT) ---AND---HOW HIGH /"CRANKED-UP" IS THE SENSITIVE LEVEL OF THE METAL DETECTOR---I'VE SUCCESSFULLY GONE THROUGH THE METAL DETECTORS WITH BOTH MY MASONIC RING,AND, MY WRIST WATCH---AND, AT OTHER TIMES EITHER ONE WOULD "SET-OFF" THE BUZZER----SO, IT SEEMS TO BE DETERMINED MAINLY BY THE SETTINGS FOR THE "SENSITIVITY LEVEL"!!!---AND, BY THE "ATTITUDE" OF THE T.S.A. PEOPLE---HOW MUCH DO THEY WANT TO "PUT ON A SHOW" THAT THEY ARE "PROTECTING YOU"--OR, HOW MUCH THAT THEY WISH TO "MESS WITH YOU"!!!---AFTERALL, "THE SHOW MUST GO ON"---WHETHER, OR NOT, THE SHOW-TIME ACTIONS TAKEN BY T.S.A. IS TRULY "EFFECTIVE"-OR, "NOT"---e.g. bic lighters

Airline Question?

How big are the clips? Normally only really large pieces of metal (like a big clump of keys or a large belt buckle) will set off the metal detector. You can tell the security officer that you're wearing hair clips and he/she will manually scan you with a hand wand.

Airline Question?

Well, you have two choices: try it once to find out (and maybe come back here and let us know how it went) or, remove them when you fly. It is true that substantial pieces of metal may set off the metal detector. To speed things up and reduce the need for hand scanning a passenger, passengers are asked to remove the obvious culprits such as belts with metal buckles, and items carried in pockets.

I always set off the metal detector because I have two hip implants made of metal. I am always called aside and they use a wand scanner on me. It detects everything metal on or in your body, including buttons, zippers, implants, even the foil on a piece of wrapped gum. It isn't embarrassing, and it doesn't take long.

Bon voyage and have a good trip.
